Bay Area Telugu Association (BATA) celebrated auspicious “Deepavali” (దీపావళి) in a grand style. It is the BATA “flagship” event and very popular among the Bay Area Telugu community. Amid the current pandemic situation, BATA hosting this event completely on-line leveraging social media platforms. The event received tremendous support from local community & with thousands of guests viewed the live telecast. The event started at 2:00 pm & went until 8:00 PM.

Program Highlights
The program started at 2:00 pm, with the program పాఠశాల పిల్లలతో దీపావళి (Paatasala Telugu Language school). Kids from all Paatasala centers attended the event dressed in traditional festive dresses and they displayed the Diya’s and Artwork paintings. Kids also recited prayers & poems. Dussera Deepavali story & quiz entertained the kids.

A special tribute to great Kuchipudi Guru / Artist Padma Shri smt. Shobha Naidu who recently passed away was the next one to follow. 8 Kuchipudi schools in BayArea paid rich tributes to the legendary dancer. They include Guru Jyothi LakkaRaju (Natyalaya School), Hima Bindu Challa (Nrityananda School), Sindhu Surendra (Siva Noopuram school), SriVidya Daita (Natya Vedam academy), Sunita Pendekanti (Kuchipudi Art center), Madhuri Kishore (Madhuri Kishore school), Samidha Satyam (Sanskaar School), & Shrini Kanth (Mythri Natyalaya School). DeepavaliKids fashion followed next.
The next program was rich tribute to Legendary singer Padma Bhushan S.P. BalaSubrah Manyam by BATA youth. Dances to foot tapping & popular songs enthralled audience. Balu garu performed in more than 15 concerts with BATA in the last 25 years and always shared special bonding.
The highlight of the evening was మాయా బజార్ (Mythological play MayaBazaar ) by very popular and famous SURABHI group. The actors did an wonderful job with lot of special effects, costumes & make up. This made the audience glued to their seats and thoroughly enjoyed the unique program.
Ramayanam – తోలు బొమ్మలాట (Tholu Bommalata) was the next one. This is one of the rare art forms in the Telugu states and Specially kids had great time. BATA committee members and supporters expressed great appreciation to both the programs and were happy to support these great artists during this Covid Pandemic.
BATA (BATA Foundation) and TANA teams together announced “Food Drive – Feed the Hungry” program in 10 cities.
