CHENNAI: Actor Kamal Haasan on Sunday tweeted his dissatisfaction at fans protesting against RK Nagar legislator T T V Dhinakaran.
Asking supporters to exercise restraint, Kamal, in a veiled statement, requested fans to not put him in a situation where he would be forced to throw out a few members from fan clubs. On Sunday, 53 people claiming to be Kamal Haasan supporters were arrested by Madurai city police for attempting to burn Dhinakaran’s effigy.
Kamal and Dhinakaran have traded fire over the last few days. Last week, the actor launched a scathing attack on Dhinakaran in a column he penned for a Tamil magazine, as he called into question the manner of Dhinakaran’s victory in the recently held RK Nagar bypoll in Chennai.
After the article was published, a group of lawyers claiming allegiance to Dhinakaran burned photographs of Kamal Haasan in front of the Coimbatore district court. A case was filed against the actor in Chennai for allegedly insulting the RK Nagar MLA. A defiant Kamal Haasan had reportedly said he would face any number of cases slapped against him.
On January 6, the Chennai city police beefed up security at Kamal Haasan’s residence in Chennai following threats by fringe outfits.
