Justifying the special package given by the Centre to Andhra Pradesh, Minister of the Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information and Broadcasting Venakaiah Naidu on Friday said what was being given to the State was much more than what was in store in Special Category Status.
He was addressing a public meeting after participating in a ‘Vijayotsav’ (victory) rally, celebrating BJPs’ victory in the Assembly elections held recently in four out of five states and the election of P.V.N. Madhav as the North Andhra Graduate Constituency MLC, here on Friday.
According to him a lot of deliberation has gone into before declaring the special package.
“We have compared benefits under SCS and SP, and it was realised that the overall difference was about Rs. 3000 crore and we have promised to fulfil even that and it will be done,” he said.
Accusing the Opposition of trying to make it a political issue over Railway Zone and SCS, he said, “If the Opposition was so keen they should be included both the railway zone and the SCS in the AP Reorganisation Bill, which was passed when they were in power. But they have done nothing and now they are blaming us, as they do not have any other issue to talk about. The present NDA government has been a scam free government so far and that is hurting them.”
Listing out a few of the benefits extended to the State, he said, “I have walked extra mile to see that AP gets the best.”
The Minister said promises made by the BJP-led NDA government such as a separate railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters, a tribal university and a Central university are pending, and they will be addressed shortly.
MP K. Haribabu, MLC P.V.N. Madhav, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, and MLAs Vishnu Kumar Raju and Panchakarla Ramesh Babu and others spoke.
